What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is typically played on a rectangular court with a net in the middle, similar to a tennis court but smaller in size. The game is usually played as a doubles sport, although it can also be played as singles.
Here are some key features of pickleball:
Court: The pickleball court is 20 feet wide and 44 feet long (compared to a tennis court, which is 36 feet wide and 78 feet long). It has a non-volley zone, also known as the "kitchen," close to the net to prevent players from volleying the ball too close to the net.
Equipment: Players use solid paddles made of various materials, and they hit a perforated plastic ball over the net. The ball is similar in size to a wiffle ball.
Scoring: Pickleball is typically played to 11 points (win by two), and you can only score points while serving.
Rules: The serve must be underhand and made diagonally. The receiving team must let the ball bounce once before they can volley it. The non-volley zone restricts players from hitting the ball in the air while standing in this area.
Pickleball is known for being a fast-paced and easy-to-learn sport, making it suitable for players of various ages and skill levels. It has gained popularity in recent years, particularly among seniors and in community and recreational settings.
